Google visits Seaford High School Computer Science class !
3/13/24
On Monday, March 11, Seaford graduate Dan Cummings came to the AP Computer Science Principles class to talk about cooperation and collaboration in the development of Apps. Dan Cummings said he got his start in Computer Science from Ms. Thompsen’s Java class. Ms. Thompsen is very proud to tell you that three of her former students work at the Google NYC campus. Many of her other former students are successful in the computer industry.
Mr. Cummings experiences working at Google and being a Teaching Assistant at the college level, were shared to the students to help them better understand the “bigger picture.” In his position he uses TypeScript language which is very similar to JavaScript. The students are currently learning how to use JavaScript to develop phone apps. Students Jayden Sem and Ryan Hrubec showed Mr. Cummings their current phone app projects.

High School science teachers Mrs. Simon's and Mrs. Cupo stand with Seaford's first science research students to be published in the Journal of Emerging Investigators, Julia Gambino and Kaylee Sanderson. Kaylee and Julia are the first in Seaford High School to be published, with more of our research students closely following. The research published was based on their 2019-2020 research, that was never taken to competition due to the quarantine. From March through June, students finished their research for possible submission. Over the summer, their manuscripts were submitted, where the research was thoroughly reviewed by scientists in the field. After many rounds of edits and reviews, their research was accepted and published.

Harbor School
10/26/20
Class 5-3 at the Harbor has been building its optimism and confidence by studying A Little Spot of Optimism: A Story About Managing Thoughts and Growth Mindset throughout the fall. All of us in 5-3 practice shifting our mindsets each day with positive self-talk and positive actions. We are all familiar with the challenges of learning in person this year, but we are focusing on the bright side by choosing words that create positive thoughts. When we are faced with difficult situations we ask ourselves three questions: What good can come from this? What can I learn from this? Who can help me? We remind ourselves that feelings are temporary and that optimism is all about how we choose to look at a situation.
We are also spreading optimism and confidence with the rest of the Harbor School by sharing “spots of optimism.”
